Welcome to Year 3
Class Teacher: Mr Hicks
Welcome to Year 3. On this page you will find links to our curriculum overview for the year, our current learning enquiry question along with other useful information including home learning expectations.
PE
Our PE days continue to be on Wednesdays and Fridays. Children to arrive at school dressed in their PE kit on these days.
Reading
Children can change their books on any day and are encouraged to keep a log of their reading in their Reading Record. We ask that parents sign reading records each week. For further comprehension practice after completing a book, children may quiz on Accelerated Reader at school or at home.
Need some help choosing a book to read, why not try one of Mr Hicks's top reads? Or speak to one of our classroom librarians!
Maths
In Year 3 we have a big push on learning times tables and the children are tested on these once a week. Children can practise these online via TTRockstars or Hit The Button. You will be able to see which times table your child is currently focussing on in the Reading Record.
Spelling
Personalised spellings, based on each child's own writing, go home on Fridays to learn and practise. Please tick or sign to show that these have been learnt at home. Additional activities involving our Year 3 spelling rules are set via home learning.
Home Learning
A home learning activity sheet will be sent out every Friday and should be completed by the following Thursday. Activities include reading fluency practice, a writing challenge and a "Year 3 big mix", which allows children to consolidate some of our Year 3 objectives in maths and literacy.
Once completed, there are two ways to submit work: uploading onto Classdojo or simply by handing in the work at school.
Many thanks, Mr Hicks
